The first week of the high school football season kicked off with a lot of excitement and some explosive plays and shocking upsets. Some of Texas High School footballs top five teams came up with some exciting victories, and some were not so lucky.

Here are updated rankings list of the top teams that made their marks in the first week of the season.

#1.Southlake Carroll, 1-0

The Dragons kicked off their season successfully with a dominant shutout against Midland High, finishing with a score of 49-0. Both the defense and offense of the Dragons performed exceptionally well this week. Offensively, they demonstrated a well-rounded attack with Pitt commit Angelo Renda completing 17 out of 25 passes for 256 yards, along with three touchdown passes and two interceptions; Brooks Biggers carried the ball 17 times for 112 yards and scored two touchdowns; and Ohio State commit Brock Boyd recorded six receptions for 88 yards and one touchdown (as reported by mrt.com).

#2. North Crowley, 1-0

North Crowley secured a narrow victory over Lancaster with a score of 22-18. In the end, the offense delivered, and the defense executed crucial stops, leading to the win. With this triumph, North Crowley improves its season record to 1-0 as the Panthers prepare to host the DeSoto Eagles in a non-district game on Friday, September 5.

#3.Duncanville, 0-0

No game or change this week.

#4.North Shore, 0-1

South Oak Cliff Bears were in a festive mood following Friday’s game, as they witnessed their football team triumph over the North Shore Mustangs, 41-31 in a non-district matchup. The Mustangs (0-1) will now get ready for their upcoming contest against Crowley (Crowley, TX).

#5.Westlake, 0-1

The audience at Friday’s non-league match between the Prosper Eagles (Prosper, TX) and the visiting Westlake Chaparrals (Austin, TX) witnessed Prosper’s football team edge out a shocking upset against Westlake with a final score of 29-22. Next up, the Chaparrals will face the San Benito Greyhounds in a non-district game on Friday, September 5. Westlake aims to improve its 0-1 season record and get it headed in the right direction. The Greyhounds come into the game with a 0-1 record following their 49-14 non-district defeat to Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North.
