The class of 2028 in Texas High School football is loaded with talent, and we will be ranking the top five recruits at every position. Here are the top five running backs and watchlist recruits to be aware of this fall in 2025, which will be here before we know it.

Top Five 2028 Texas High School Football Running Backs

#1. Micah Rhodes, RB, Klein Oak, 5-11, 187

Micah is undoubtedly one of the top running back recruits in the country, especially in Texas, where the position class is very talented. With nearly 20 Division I offers at this point in his high school career, many college programs, including Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, and Texas, have extended early offers. Rhodes is a hard-nosed runner who is tough for defenses to bring down, boasting track sprinter speed and agility. He can break runs to the outside or run between the tackles, often going untouched into the end zone. In 2024, as a freshman, Rhodes earned Texas District 15- 6A Offensive Newcomer of the Year. Lastly, it’s worth noting that Rhodes’ grandfather played for Texas, which could influence his future decision on where he will take his talents when the time comes to choose a college.

#2. Sean Simon, RB, La Porte, 5-10 / 185

Simon racked up 1,602 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on 177 attempts in 2024, earning the title of Texas District 11-5A-I Offensive Newcomer of the Year as a freshman. He has elite balance after contact, allowing him to shed tackles and then use his lethal speed to dash to the end zone. An explosive and powerful runner out of the backfield, Simon possesses exceptional open-field moves and can hurdle defenders with his athleticism. It’s no wonder schools like TCU, Tennessee, Nebraska, and SMU, among others, have offered him scholarships, bringing his total to 12 so far.

#3. Brayden Bonik, RB / ATH, Ridge Point, 6-0 / 185

Bonik is an athlete who can play and whose skills project to the running back or linebacker position. It’s unclear at this point, but many are listing Bonik as a top linebacker prospect. His recruiting has absolutely exploded this summer, with 21 total Division I offers from schools like Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, South Carolina, and others. Bonik has the pedigree that college coaches are looking for, as his father, Devin Bonik, played as a linebacker for Oklahoma State and spent 11 years in the NFL with the Jaguars, Titans, and Falcons.

#4. Jeremiah Tabor, RB, Melissa, 6-1 / 195

Tabor played for Melissa as a freshman, which is no easy feat given the talent on the team each year and the tough division in Texas high school football. He rushed for nearly 1,000 yards (784) and scored 7 rushing touchdowns on 129 attempts. Jeremiah is a home run threat whenever he has the football and could easily surpass some of his peers on this list next season with more film, as Tabor is absolutely an elite player. His explosiveness, speed, and agility are unmatched, allowing him to break off a fifty-yard run and reach the end zone in the blink of an eye. Baylor, Purdue, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and others have all extended offers.

#5. Christopher Chizer Jr., RB, Dekaney, 5-8 / 165

Chizer could impress many next season. He has early offers from Arizona, Tulsa, and Texas A&M, and we expect more will come in 2025. Chizer is a shifty runner with great balance, allowing him to change direction easily and cut back on runs to reach the end zone. He also has the speed to make big plays at any time. With his talent, he could soon be a highly rated recruit with multiple stars and offers next to his name.
