The Class of 2028 in Texas high school football is rich in talent, showcasing diverse skills among young athletes. We evaluate and rank the top five recruits at each position, highlighting players who will impact the field and recruiting.

Below is a list of the top five edge recruits noted for their performances and potential. Additionally, we have compiled other noteworthy recruits to watch as we approach the exciting fall season of 2025, where these athletes can further demonstrate their skills and possibly elevate their rankings.

Top Five 2028 Edge Recruits

#1. DeMitri Johnson, Edge, Waco, 6-1 / 215

Johnson has received three early Division I scholarship offers from in-state schools, which include notable programs such as Houston, Texas State, and Texas Tech. These offers indicate a significant level of interest from these institutions, highlighting Johnson’s potential as a promising athlete. However, it is important to note that there isn’t much film available on Johnson at this time, which makes it challenging to fully assess his skills and abilities on the field. Despite the limited film, it is evident that he has clearly caught the attention of college coaches early in his high school career, suggesting that he possesses qualities that are being recognized and valued by these programs. This early interest could bode well for his future prospects in collegiate athletics.

#2. Cameron Sydnor, Edge, C.E. King, 6-4 / 195

A multi-sport athlete who plays basketball and football, Sydnor has tremendous size and length for being so young. Sydnor sprouted up early and has already earned offers from Georgia State and Texas Tech. Cameron is explosive at the snap of the ball, quickly getting into the backfield to make plays in the blink of an eye. His speed and agility are elite, and he plays with a high motor and relentless pursuit of the football. The way he tackles is impressive; he can demolish ball carriers. There’s plenty of room to add more lean mass and muscle to his lengthy frame. However, his speed is a significant asset in today’s game, and Sydnor has plenty of it.

#3. Shaune Johnson, Edge, North Shore, 6-1 / 215

Arizona State has extended an early offer to Johnson, it’s no wonder because he can clouge up the trenches and make plenty of tackles for losses and get in the face of the quarterback.

#4. Reagan Smith, Edge, Weiss, 6-2 / 200

The Houston Cougars have offered Smith. Reagan is explosive off the edge and can beat blockers with his sheer speed and athleticism. He displays great bend, a low center of gravity, and can make plays, including tackles for loss, sacks, quarterback hurries, and turnovers. Look for Smith to have a tremendous season this fall, and expect his recruiting stock to continue to rise. Many may not know his name now, but they certainly will soon.

#5. Khalen Taylor, Edge , Ridge Point, 6-1 / 205

Taylor has tons of potential to be a highly rated and recruited player. He has loads of talent and ability and is a versatile player who can play multiple techniques along the defensive line and can dominate with his athleticism. A player to keep an eye on who could end up with plenty of stars and offers next to his name.

The 2028 class of Texas high school football edge recruits is not particular loaded at the moment with talent, however, as more players begin to sprout up and hit their growth spurts, we could see a lot more players emerge this fall. We will keep you updated as more players arise in the recruiting scene and make their names known.
