Top Three Scouting Report
JayQuan Snell, S, Waxahachie, 6-3 / 175
One of the top safety recruits in the nation in Snell. With 35 Division I offers from the top programs across the country, Snell has the ability and talent to go anywhere in the country and make an impact. With his elite size and ability, Snell is big enough to play linebacker and lay out ball carriers, and nimble enough to play cornerback. A leader on the defensive side of the ball who can cover the entire back half of the field himself and shut down offenses. In 2024, Snell had a breakout sophomore season with 86 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery in 13 contests (according to 247sports.com). Michigan, Alabama, LSU, and Ohio State are some of his latest offers.
Eli Johnson, S, Steele, 6-3 / 200
Ranked as a four-star prospect and in the top ten nationally, and as we have him, second in the state at the safety position. Johnson is another safety with tremendous size, a lengthy defensive back with long arms and athleticism. In 2024, Eli made his name known with 68 total tackles, 3 tackles for losses, 2 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 2 interceptions, and 1 pass breakups(according to 247sports.com). Eli is a defensive back who can trail wide receivers and stick to their hips and display amazing awareness coming up with turnovers. A ballhawk who can play well against the pass and come down in the box and stop runs before ever progressing.
Davontrae Kirkland, S, Waco University, 6-0 / 175
Davontrae is a multi-sport athlete who also runs track. In 2023, Kirkland had a breakout season as a freshman, and in 2024, he had a monster year, racking up impressive stats with 83 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 interception, and 1 forced fumble. Put simply, Kirkland can make plays. He can cover, he can tackle, and he doesn’t just tackle—he absolutely lays out ball carriers and isn’t afraid to sacrifice his body to help his team and raise some eyebrows in the process. His commitment is set for June 14th. Many analysts believe Baylor is at the top of Kirkland’s list for where he will ultimately take his talents, but other schools are in the mix as well, including Houston, Oklahoma, TCU, and Texas Tech.
