Scouting Report & Evaluation
Rowan is undersized as a linebacker recruit for the Division I level; however, he displays some tendencies and attributes that he can improve upon to help him reach the next level. He shows good awareness of the field and can read the quarterback’s eyes to make a play on the ball. While his speed and agility are adequate, there is still room for improvement. More explosiveness when shooting gaps and making his way into the backfield to create more tackles for loss, quarterback hurries, or sacks will improve Rowan’s recruiting stock.
He plays well against the pass and can jar the ball loose from receivers through hits or pass breakups. It would be great to see him come up with more interceptions or pass breakups.
Positives
+ Reads plays well and the QB’s eyes.
+ Solid open field tackler.
+ Has the ability to jar the ball loose from pass catchers.
+ Covers receivers well against the pass.
Neg./ Areas of Improvement
– Undersized as a DI-level LB.
– Would like to see more physicality as a tackler and really lay out defenders.
– A better technique could be used to disengage from blockers by delivering a more heavy-handed punch or grabbing and shedding.
– Can shoot gaps better with more explosiveness.
– Needs to add more lean mass to the frame.
