The 2025 Texas high school football season is fast approaching, and several emerging defensive talents are showcasing their skills on film. These players may move from hopeful prospects to household names this fall. Today, we highlight the class of 2026 edges who have the skills and talent necessary for a breakout year.
Jayson Cannon , Edge , Denison
HT/WT: 6-3 / 200
Offers: 3
Jayson is explosive off the edge. He’s fast, athletic, has a great build, and can make plays in the backfield. He checks all the boxes as a Division I recruit and already has three offers from schools like Texas State, Tulsa, and UTSA. We believe that number will increase this season with more impressive tape.
Cooper Cyphers , Edge , Colleyville Heritage
HT/WT: 6-0 / 200
Offers: NA
A bit undersized as an edge recruit for the Division I level, we believe Cyphers could excel at the lower levels of college football. He has a quick first step, maintains a low pad level, and can either explode past offensive linemen or overpower them with his bull rush. With a high motor and pursuit of the football, Cooper makes plays. A breakout season could be on the horizon for Cyphers, who has the potential to be a difference-maker on defense.
Joshua Shaw , Edge , Allen
HT/WT: 6-3 / 220
Offers:
Joshua has a lengthy athletic build with long arms and is very lethal off the edge. He can beat blockers with his bull rush or his speed and athleticism, allowing him to reach the quarterback. Allen coaches top-tier Division I talent year in and year out, and Shaw is no different. He currently holds one Division I offer from Bowling Green; however, we suspect a breakout season is on the horizon for Joshua. He is a huge sleeper flying under the radar at the moment, and without a doubt, he can play on Saturdays for many of the top Division I programs.
Jace Johnson , Edge , Allen
HT/WT: 6-2 / 210
Offers: 1
Jace is a multi-sport athlete who competes in both track and football. He is another top-tier Allen edge recruit flying under the radar, and his recruiting stock could rise this year. Although he isn’t well known yet and has limited film available, he could be one of those recruits who impresses many during his senior season. UTSA has offered.
With the upcoming season, the 2026 edges have a chance to demonstrate their skills against the best talent in Texas high school football. If they can make the most of their promising initial performances, they won’t just be standout players this year; they’ll become names that college recruiters and fans will remember for years to come. The film speaks for itself, and these recruits are ready to leave their mark.
