Throughout the United States, universities are actively recognizing and courting outstanding young talents in high school football, particularly as they scout some of the brightest prospects for their programs.

In Texas, a state renowned for its rich football tradition, high school athletes consistently emerge as exceptional recruits, showing immense promise year after year. To secure a competitive edge in this increasingly cutthroat environment, many college football programs are turning their attention to underclassmen, including those from the promising class of 2028, much earlier than ever before.

This early recruitment strategy allows programs to identify and nurture future stars before they become household names. Among the standout emerging wide receiver recruits from the class of 2028 are athletes who demonstrate remarkable talent and ability. These young players are not only showcasing impressive statistics on the field but are also exhibiting leadership qualities and the ability to be stars at a very young age. Here are some of the best class of 2028 wide receiver recruits in Texas High School football to know about.

Top Five Sophomore Wide Receivers in Texas

Damarion Mays, WR / ATH, North Crowley, 6-2 / 170

Damarion turned a lot of heads in 2024, earning the attention of many top college football programs across the country—27 in total. That’s how many Division I scholarship offers Mays received during his freshman season. Schools like the Georgia Bulldogs, Texas Longhorns, Miami, and others recognized Mays’s potential and extended offers to him, along with many others. With over 68 receptions, more than 1,600 receiving yards, and 14 receiving touchdowns (according to 247sports.com), Damarion had a breakout season last fall. He is a man among boys on the field, thanks to his lengthy frame, long arms, and long stride, which allow him to turn every touch of the football into six points. Damarion is an elite wide receiver nationally and will continue to be for years to come.

Brendyn Jackson, WR, Midlothian, 5-11 / 170

Brendyn is another early rising class of 2028 wide receiver recruit out of the class of 2028 from the Lone Star state with 8 total Division I offers from programs like Kansas, Missouri, Texas Tech, and others. Nearly had a 1,000-yard reception season with 7 receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. Brendyn is lethal at the snap of the ball, quick off the line of scrimmage, and can win contested passes with his high-point ability to go up and snag the football out of the air and come up with touchdowns at will for his team. Look for Jackson to make more of a name for himself and more of an impact for his team this fall.

Peyton Smith, WR, La Porte, 6-2 / 175

Peyton can quickly get over the top of corners and make some spectacular catches. With his athleticism, excellent route-running ability, and hands that will only improve over time, it’s worth mentioning that Smith has the potential to be among the top recruits in his class, not just in the state but nationwide. With an impressive film from last season, Peyton is poised for a great sophomore campaign at La Porte.

Brayden Spinks, WR, Berkner, 5-10 / 150

Brayden is a special player who can play both ways and dominate at either defensive back or wide receiver with elite speed, pure athleticism, and agility. Has a knack for coming up with the football and putting up points on the scoreboard on defense and offense at wide out. As a receiver, Brayden displays great awareness of the field, tremendous ball tracking ability, and can contort his body to come up with some pretty amazing catches.

Kade Smith, WR, North Crowley, 5-10 / 175

Schools like Arizona, SMU, and Houston, to name a few, have all offered Kade. He has elite speed and agility and can turn yards after the catch into long yardage gainers or touchdowns with his pure athleticism and open field moves. This is a wide receiver who could easily move up our rankings and move up many college football programs’ recruiting boards with his blazing speed and dominance on the football field.
